Difference between Community Engagement Specialist, Community Architect, and Community Manager

Analyzing 45 job vacancies for Community People posted on LinkedIn, Happy Monday, and other sources, I identified three types of profiles.


Responsibilities of Three Different Community People Profiles 


Community Engagement Specialist:


  • Build and maintain online communities.

  • Engage with participants via social media and other platforms.

  • Foster positive interactions within the community.

  • Organize and manage online and/or offline events.

  • Plan and conduct quests, charitable initiatives, quizzes, contests, and challenges.

  • Develop and engage the community through gamification and the implementation of benefit and reward systems.

  • Use analytics tools to measure community engagement and gather insights for strategy improvement.


  Community Architect:


  • Strategically design the community journey and architecture to engage participants.

  • Design and implement various community formats: events, quests, charitable initiatives, quizzes, contests, challenges, etc.

  • Develop strong community channels, including outreach to new platforms and adaptation of old platforms.

  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Lead the community management and support team, defining roles and responsibilities.

  • Create and implement community development strategies.

  • Work with stakeholders on contributing to the community within IT companies.

  • Design gamification and create benefit and reward systems.


Community Manager:


  • Build and maintain an online community, including developing strategies to increase engagement and retention.

  • Engage with community members through social media, forums, and other platforms to ensure a positive participation experience.

  • Organize and coordinate online and offline events aimed at enhancing community cohesion and attracting new members.

  • Monitor and analyze community activity, using analytics tools to measure the success of engagement and interaction strategies.

  • Manage various social media platforms to optimize audience engagement and content distribution.

  • Develop and curate content tailored to the community's needs and interests, including creating informational materials, blogs, videos.

  • Interact with key stakeholders, including sponsors, partners, and influencers, to enhance community opportunities.

  • Resolve conflicts and problematic situations within the community, ensuring compliance with rules and conduct norms.

  • Provide support and responses to community member inquiries, collecting and analyzing feedback to improve engagement strategies.

  • Create and implement loyalty and reward programs for active community members.


Comparison of Responsibilities: Community Architect, Community Engagement Specialist, and Community Manager


The Community Architect focuses on strategic design and development of community architecture. This role requires a deep understanding of community dynamics to create a robust structure that promotes engagement and participant activity. A person in this profile creates and implements various interaction formats, develops growth strategies, and engages with new platforms.


The Community Engagement Specialist focuses on direct interaction with community participants through various channels. They are responsible for organizing events, moderating discussions, maintaining a positive atmosphere in the community, and encouraging active member participation. This specialist also gathers feedback and implements gamification to increase engagement.


The Community Manager is a key figure who combines strategic and tactical aspects of community management. This person oversees daily operations, plans and executes engagement strategies, moderates discussions, manages social media, and organizes events. The Community Manager is also responsible for analyzing the effectiveness of the community's activities and adapting strategies based on insights.


Conclusion

The Community Architect works at a strategic level, developing the foundation and long-term plans for community growth. The Community Engagement Specialist focuses on tactical interaction methods, activating community members. The Community Manager combines these two aspects by managing daily operations and bringing the strategic vision to life.


Considering these characteristics, employers can more easily identify their specific needs.
